David L. Lewis

David Lee Lewis, of Whiting, NJ and formerly Haddon Heights, NJ
peacefully passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2025. He was 83.
Dave was born and raised on a farm in rural Ohio where he developed a
love for Ohio State college sports.
He served his country in the U.S. Army in the early 1960’s and at one point
was stationed in Germany.
David was a man of many talents and passions. He had a love for music
that shone through in his harmonica playing, and he shared his musical
gifts as a trombone player while serving in the army. His love of fishing and
campfires was refined at New Life Island Camp on the Delaware River and
at America’s Keswick. Dave spent many years in the electronic field,
starting with the Minute man missile in the army and then with RCA and
other electronic companies. He was the director of telecommunications at
Kennedy hospital when they changed over their phone system. He was
also a dedicated educator, inspiring countless students as an instructor at
Kings Christian School and Salem County Christian Academy.
In addition to his educational career, David authored three books; a
biographical work, an historical fiction, and a collection of poetry, which
showcased his creativity and intellect. For a time, he ran his own painting
business, demonstrating his entrepreneurial spirit and eye for detail.
Before and during retirement Dave and his wife were volunteers at
America’s Keswick for almost 20 years in various roles supporting the
wonderful work of God transforming the lives of those recovering from
addictions.
David cherished the moments spent with his family, creating lasting
memories that will be cherished by those who loved him. His warmth,
kindness, and sense of humor will never be forgotten. David leaves behind
a legacy of love and creativity that will live on in the hearts of his family and
all who knew him.
Above all, Dave served his Savior Jesus Christ. He was a deacon and
school board member at Haddon Heights Baptist Church and at Hainesport
Community Baptist Church. He loved to teach Sunday School classes,
especially about prayer. Dave prayed daily for his family members.

David is the beloved Husband of Karlyn Lewis for 48 years, devoted father
of Lori Oakley (Bob), Daniel Lewis (Valerie Mason) and Jonathan Lewis
(Carrie Zeh) and cherished grandfather of nine grandchildren and seven
great grandchildren. David is predeceased by his parents, Harry and
Elizabeth Lewis, his brother Thomas Lewis, and his sisters Cecelia Newlon
and Sara Jane Rodgers, and his first wife of 13 years Patricia Mae
Klingler.
A celebration of his life will be held at America’s Keswick, where family and
friends are invited to share their memories on Sunday afternoon February 2, where a visitation will take place from 3:30-4:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service from 4-5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in David’s name to America’s Keswick Christian Retreat and Conference Center: 601 County Road, Whiting, NJ,08759 or via their website: https://americaskeswick.org/support/give-now/
