Joseph H. Staley , Jr

Joseph “Joe” H. Staley, Jr of Dagsboro, DE formerly of Camden County, NJ went to be with his loving and gracious Lord on Tuesday, November 12th, 2024.

Son of Hazel (Hargis) Bain and J. Howell Staley, he was born on March 1, 1942, in Camden City, NJ. After attending Collingswood Memorial High School, Joe received an associate degree in computer science from Pierce Junior College. After working at Fiberglass for a few years, he decided that office work no longer suited him. Having always worked in a garage and on cars, he took a job on Pier 122 South in Philadelphia as a shunt mechanic and later a crane operator.

Ever the tinkerer, he spent his early retirement years as a school bus driver and maintenance man for The King’s Christian School. As a bus driver, he would make up little ditties to encourage the riders’ good behavior. He enjoyed reading, listening to Phillies games, classical music and oldies, working on house projects, and tracking his blood pressure.

Over the years he volunteered publicly with Boy Scouts (Troop 113), served on the board of The King’s Christian School, served as secretary and treasurer of Steelworkers Local 5706, and served on the Herring Wood Homeowners Association. His love for the Lord was most evident in his servant’s heart behind the scenes whether it was sweeping floors, stacking chairs, directing traffic for events, setting up the tent for the Harvest Celebration, mowing the church lawn, filling in as a prophet in a living nativity or serving his friends and family in countless other ways.

He is predeceased by his parents and many aunts and uncles. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Eileen W. Staley and their children, Margaret Haynes (Bill), Joseph Staley (Marie), John Staley (Christine), James Staley (Corine), Sarah Niebauer (Walt) and Shannon Sullivan (Josh); seventeen grandchildren, Kelly, Emily, Marie, Jennifer, Megan, Adam, Mia, Elizabeth, Victoria, James, Alexander, Catherine, David, Haven, Eleanor, Mary and Evelyn; and five great-grandchildren, Wesley, Savannah, Felicity, and two girls yet to be born.

Friends and Family are welcome to attend Joe’s viewing: Monday, November 18th from 7pm-9pm at the DuBois Funeral Home: 700 S. White Horse Pike, Audubon, NJ, 08106. His funeral service will take place the following day, Tuesday, November 19th at 10 am at the funeral home, followed by interment at Locustwood Memorial Park, in Cherry Hill, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Joe are encouraged and can be given to The King’s Christian School, 5 Carnegie Plaza, Cherry Hill, NJ 08003 or a charity of your choice.
