Natalie Jane Hirt

Jane Hirt of Pitman, NJ, passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2023.  She was 101.

Jane was born in Collingswood, NJ in 1922 to Benson and Mabel Barron.  She graduated from Glassboro State Teachers College (now Rowan University) with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education in 1943.  After meeting at the Playland Roller Skating Rink in Ocean City, she married Oscar Herbert Hirt, Jr. on November 18, 1944.  She taught kindergarten in Collingswood for three years until she retired to start a family.

Jane has said “the most important decision of my life was accepting Jesus as my Savior.  I can’t imagine what my life would have been like without Him.† Jane spent the rest of her time on earth loving and serving God, teaching Bible clubs in her home, children’s club, Sunday School at church, and singing in the choir.  She was a faithful member of Haddon Heights Baptist Church for 65 years.  After Oscar became director of Bible Club Movement in 1964 (now BCM International), she accompanied him on trips around the world, becoming personal friends with many missionaries.  Jane lived out the truth of the verse she chose for her life when she was in Junior High: “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you†(Matthew 6:33).

Jane loved life and saw the love and gifts of God in ordinary things such as flowers, sun, moon, and ocean.  Her cheerful, positive spirit brought joy to those around her.  She cared deeply about others, wanting them to be happy and most of all to have a right relationship with God.  Jane diligently read her Bible and prayed literally around the world every night.  She moved through the ups and downs of life with grace and a complete trust in the sovereign goodness of God.  Although we will miss her sweet spirit and smile, we know that she is now at home with Jesus.

Jane is the beloved wife of the late Oscar H. Hirt, Jr.; devoted mother of Patricia Mosely (Stephen), Nancy Breneman (John), and the late Oscar Herbert Hirt, III (Diane); cherished sister of Marion Burrowes and Peg Hill (Art); adoring grandmother of 6; and loving great grandmother of 9.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Jane’s visitation on Monday, October 9, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Haddon Heights Baptist Church, 300 Station Ave, Haddon Heights, NJ 08035.  A memorial service to honor Jane’s life will follow at 3:00 pm.  Interment will be private.

Jane loved the water and swimming.  In lieu of flowers, gifts may be sent to Handi*Vangelism Ministries International, PO Box 122, Akron, PA 17501 or https://www.hvmi.org/onlinegiving, designate “In memory of Jane Hirt,† to purchase Pool Accessibility Equipment for handicapped children to enjoy swimming.  Funeral arrangements under the direction of DuBois Funeral Home, 700 South White Horse Pike, Audubon, NJ 08106.  Condolences and memories may be shared at DuboisFuneralHome.
