George V, Buffington, jr.

George V. Buffington, jr, of Collingswood, New Jersey passed away peacefully on Monday, February 5th 2024. He was 99.

George was born in June of 1924 in New Oxford, Pennsylvania to George Sr.and Mary Buffington (nee Cramer). George Sr was a barber by trade, thus introducing his son to the profession that George junior would work in up into the ripe age of 93!  Before owning his own salon, George worked at the beauty salons in Gimbels Department Store and John Wannamaker, at one point styling the hair of the future Princess of Monaco, Grace Kelly. In the 1960s he opened his own salon: Alure Beauty Salon in Oaklyn, New Jersey.

 He was a US Army Veteran of WWII, partaking in battles at Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and the Battle of The Bulge. After returning home after the war, he married his love, Dorothy. Spending time with his family and keeping in shape / body building were just a few things that George was passionate about.  George was Commander of the American Legion in Fairview, and served as President of the NJ Hairdressers Association for several years.  People loved talking to George. He was very knowledgeable having studied law, electrical engineering, and even sold Real Estate early in his career. He will be greatly missed.

George was the Beloved husband of 75 years to Dorothy Buffington (nee Smith); devoted father of Michael (Cheryl), dear brother of Joe Buffington, Linda Eltz, and Dottie Kehr. Loving grandfather of Chelsea and Shane. George is pre-deceased by his parents George and Mary, and by his brother Jacob Buffington. Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
