Nola Jean Jobbins

Nola Jean Jobbins (nee Fitzgerald), age 80, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away on December 10, 2023, after a brief battle with cancer.

Nola was born on October 27, 1943, to George and Gertrude Fitzgerald in Chicago, Illinois.  She grew up in Haddon Heights, New Jersey, with her parents and brother.  She attended Haddon Heights High School and Peirce Jr. College, earning an associate in arts degree in secretarial studies.

Nola began her career at Campbell’s Soup Company.  She then worked at Kennedy Memorial Hospital, where she served for 40 years, first as an ER registrar and then as a radiology assistant.

She loved the Lord, and was a longtime member of Haddon Heights Baptist Church, where she served in the children’s Sunday School.  It’s also where she first met her husband Edmund (“Edâ€) Jobbins.  After many dates at the bowling alley and horseback riding, she and Ed married on September 24, 1965, and purchased a home in Oaklyn, New Jersey, where they raised their three daughters.

Nola was a “do-er†and could always be relied on, especially where her family was concerned.  She enjoyed latch hook, puzzles, and using her masterful sewing skills to create clothes and costumes for her girls.  She loved to bake, and was known to make over a dozen different kinds of cookies at Christmastime.  She also enjoyed the beach and going on tropical cruises with her husband.  It was there that she developed a love for island music and was still “jammin’†to Bob Marley at age 80!

Nola is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Edmund Jobbins; her daughters, Victoria Jobbins, Melissa Wiederrecht (nee Jobbins), and Cindy Hall (nee Jobbins); her grandchildren (who affectionally called her “Menaâ€), Haley, Kathryn, and Julia Wiederrecht, Adam Jobbins and Aaron Hall; and her sons-in-law, David Wiederrecht and David Hall.  Nola was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Larry Fitzgerald.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up in Nola’s name at the Alzheimer’s Association, https://act.alz.org/site/TR/Events/Tributes-AlzheimersChampions?pg=fund&fr_id=1060&pxfid=853627 . The funeral services and internment are private at the request of the family.  Funeral arrangements under the direction of DuBois Funeral Home, 700 South White Horse Pike, Audubon, NJ 08106.  Condolences and memories may be shared at DuboisFuneralHome.
