Maria A. Goldfarb
On February 19, 2023, Maria Goldfarb (nee Mascarenhas), age 94, of Stratford, NJ, went home to her Lord and Savior. Maria was the beloved wife of the late Seymour Goldfarb and loving mother of Ernesta Luzi, Albert Luzi (Suzanne), Carl Luzi Jr. (Diane), and the late Harry Goldfarb. Maria is survived by her brother, Armindo Mascarenhas and sister, Maria Joao Merryfield; 10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Joseph Mascarenhas and Isabel Ferreira.
Maria was an avid gardener, who loved to spend her days outside planting or caring for her beloved impatiens and begonias, along with her roses and hostas, which she shared with her family and friends each year. Most days in season she would go outside after lunch and come in around dinner time. Her gardens were so breath taking that she won 1st Place in the Bicentennial Garden Flower Contest in Stratford, NJ, where she lived for over 6 decades.
Maria’s most precious thing in life was her family. She and her husband, Seymour brought her mother and her siblings from Portugal to America so they could enjoy the freedoms the US offers. All of them started families, purchased homes, worked in different businesses, and enjoyed being together for many years, including the holidays. Besides being a loving mother to her children through the many challenges life brought, she still helped as much as she could, including watching her local grandkids a few days a week for many years. She was known as “Meme†to all her grandchildren. She would love taking them for long walks to the park and enjoyed being with them. She also hosted her (ladies) club group for years, which started in Camden, NJ where she resided early on in her younger life with her former husband, the late Carl Luzi Sr. Maria loved hosting outdoor barbecues and her favorite, Christmas Eve dinners. She loved to cook specialty dishes like chicken with wine and 3 meat meatballs and spaghetti with olives just to name a few. She loved setting tables with tablecloths, folded napkins, etc. No matter how many came, she always found a place for them.
Maria loved singing and dancing with her husband, Seymour. You knew that when the music started, whether they were at a wedding or special event, they were the first on the dance floor and would stay there till the music stopped. As she became older she loved singing at a local establishment called the “Krazy Katâ€; where her friends would gather around the piano, microphone in hand, and sing their favorite songs. She typically sang in French, as she was able to speak 7 languages fluently herself. We will never forget these memories as she literally “touched†everyone she came in contact with.
A visitation will be held on Monday, February 27, 2023 from 10:00 am till 11:00 am, followed by a “Celebration of Life†at the Fellowship Community Church Campus, 710 West Collings Avenue, Collingswood, NJ 08107. The interment will follow at the Colestown Cemetery, 100 North Kings Highway, Cherry Hill, NJ 08002. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the church listed above in her memory. Funeral arrangements under the direction of DuBois Funeral Home, 700 South White Horse Pike, Audubon, NJ 08106. Condolences and memories may be shared at DuboisFuneralHome.
