Carol Keans Darby

Carol Keans Darby of Marlton, NJ, formerly of Haddon Heights, NJ, went home to be with Christ her Redeemer on October 1, 2022, at age 91.

Dearly loved by her family, she was welcomed to Glory by her husband of 57 years, Frank E. Darby and by her parents, Harry Irving and Frances Geer Keans.  Mrs. Darby was the loving and devoted mother of Rev. Alan S. Darby (Beverly), and Lynne D. Yagel (Scott); grandmother of five grandchildren; and great grandmother of four great grandchildren.

Carol was truly a light to the world, shining for Jesus, her Savior, in service to Him and humanity.  Her lifelong passions were music, missions, and ministry, powered by dedicated daily prayer and a deep love for the truths of the Bible.  Her helpful and thankful spirit were evident to all and grew stronger as the years went by, even into her final days.  She never lost her wonderful smile and sense of humor.

Carol was born January 9, 1931 and grew up in Westwood, NJ.  She met Frank in the Music Department at Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA, and graduated with her BME.  Mr. and Mrs. Darby poured their lives into their students as music teachers.  Carol taught private piano and flute lessons for 37 years.  She directed the large Youth Choir at Haddon Heights Methodist Church for 28 years.  She played flute in community events, and was a member of the Haddonfield Symphony.  Carol enjoyed homemaking, gardening, and visiting family in New England, Nova Scotia, Ocean City, Guam, North Carolina, and Virginia.  She loved corresponding by pen or email with old friends and missionaries all over the world.

Throughout her life Carol shared the Gospel in the community by initiating countless women’s Bible Studies, prayer groups, and mentorships, as well as supporting widows and shut-ins.  With Frank she was very involved in Heights Methodist Church, “Committee†of Young Life South Jersey, Options for Women Pregnancy Care Center, Wycliffe Associates projects, Lay Witness Missions, Haddon Heights Lions Club, WCTU, AFS, and Child Sponsorships.  Her influence was vast and she leaves a lasting impact on many.

An afternoon of celebrating her life will be held Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Wiley Church, 101 East Main Street, Marlton, NJ 08053.  Per her request, bright colored clothing is encouraged.  Visitation will be in the church at 1:00 PM and a memorial service will follow at 2:00 PM.  All are welcome for fellowship and light refreshments after the service.  Interment will be at the Geer family Cove Cemetery in Hadlyme, CT.

In lieu of flowers, Carol loved supporting Options for Women optionsnj.org, Young Life South Jersey, Camp Scholarships, P.O. Box 8152 Turnersville, NJ 08012, and Wycliffe Bible Translators.
