Dorothy E. String

On January 14, 2020, Dorothy E. (Nee Gurtcheff), age 102 Years, beloved wife of the late Roy String formerly of W. Collingswood, NJ, “was called home to heaven’ She was the devoted mother of Doris String- Rowlands (Dave) and Phyllis Reich (Randy). She was the loving grandmother of five grandchildren, and cherished great grandmother of two adorable great grandchildren. She was also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Dottie loved her family, friends and neighbors, but above all loved, and cherished her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She and her husband Roy were always together. They were a team always freezing fresh vegetables that they had hand- picked from local farms. They picked fresh strawberries, and blueberries, and gave lots of frozen fruits and vegetables to friends and neighbors. Every year they went to Harvey Cedars Conference Center, they were active members of Collingswood Baptist Church, and in later years, the first Baptist Church of Gloucester City, NJ. Her husband Roy talked about fishing for blue fish, weak fish, and flounder, and he had a story about the largest drum fish that got away in the Delaware Bay. Dottie would be on the glider on the porch nodding her head to all his fish stories. As he rocked on the porch when he was sharing stories, he would rock faster with each of his biggest tales, and experiences. She was a supportive wife, and best friend to Roy in every way. They were a match made in heaven.

Visitation will be held from 10-11:00 AM Friday March 13, 2020 at the Joy Community Fellowship, 309 Florence Ave., Pitman, NJ 08071. The memorial service will follow at 11:00 AM at the church.
