Harry Thomas Miller
Harry Thomas Miller, age 90, died peacefully at his Audubon home, surrounded by his beloved children, on March 16, 2018.
He grew up in Collingwood and Camden and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1946.He enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving at Fort Benning, Georgia, and then studied accounting at Pierce Business School.
He worked at General Dyestuff and then in the accounting department at RCA in Camden, which later became Univac. He retired in the 1980s from Unisys in Blue Bell, Pa.
He married his high school sweetheart, Ada Penny, in 1951 and lived in Camden until 1960, when they moved to Audubon. For a time, he coached Little League baseball in Audubon. He and Ada loved going on camping trips while raising their children. In later years, they enjoyed biking at the shore, taking day trips, and spending time at a campground in Dorothy. In retirement, Harry took up skiing and spent time babysitting grandchildren, often picking them up from school, helping with homework and preparing meals. Until recently, he spent Monday mornings counting collection money for First United Methodist Church in Collingswood.
Although an only child, he was part of a large, loving extended family that included his wife’s siblings and their families. At a birthday party held for him in December, more than 70 people gathered to celebrate and honor him.
A humble man, he was never heard to boast unless it was about family. “I’m really lucky,” he often said. “My children turned out to be such good people.” Nothing made him happier than being a quiet observer as the family gathered for special occasion dinners, picnics or vacations.
He is predeceased by Ada, his loving wife of 63 years, his beloved son Thomas and his parents, Emma (nee Brown) and Harry B. Miller. He is survived by daughters Lynne Albert of Perkasie, Pa. and Donna Redfield (Searle) of Sugar Hill, NH; a son, John (Susan) of Medford; grandchildren Jessica Pyryt, Kim Toutkoushian, Matthew Miller, Michael Fiolo-Miller, Kaitlin Miller Haziza, Brian Albert, Allison Redfield, Jennifer Redfield, Jaclyn Tumaian and Tanya Tumaian; great grandchildren Taylor, Lily, Jacob, Miller, Thomas and three on the way. He is also survived by Cindy Tumaian, who was like a daughter-in-law.
Visitation will be at the DuBois Funeral Home, 700 White Horse Pike, Audubon, NJ on Friday, March 23 from 9 to 11 am, with funeral services starting at 11 am at the funeral home. Interment will be at Bethel Memorial Park in Pennsauken. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice or to the Animal Welfare Association.
